In 2010 under the guidance of Mike Varrato, Dennis DeJesus, and Gary Bucci, Cranston Western Little League became the home to the inaugural 9-10 Little League Eastern Region Invitational Tournament. Similar to the 11-12 year old tournament in Bristol, CT, all of the state champions from the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions come to Cranston in August to compete. At the end of the week, a New England and Mid-Atlantic champion is crowned, concluding with an Eastern Region champion. In fact, most of the teams that compete in Cranston at age 9 or 10 end up in Bristol when they are 11 and 12, and in some instances have even made it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport. For some, teams their journey to Williamsport has its roots in Cranston.

This tournament has been a major success over the years not only for the teams that attend, but also for our league as a whole. 100% of the proceeds that we generate yearly from this tournament go directly back into upgrading our facilities and the tournament experience. We can thank the addition of lights on Varrato and Santamaria fields, stadium seating, and a state of the art concession stand and press box to the efforts that have been put into running this tournament for the past 8 years.
